Learn more about Canvas
Instructions: Click on the tabs below to learn more about the features of the Canvas Dashboard.
The Landing Page
When you first log into Canvas, you will see what is called the Landing Page. The Landing Page has three main parts: the Dashboard, Global Navigation Bar, and Sidebar.
- Dashboard. Contains a "course card" (a colored box) for each course. Each course card has quick link icons across the bottom.
- Global Navigation Bar. A static menu bar on the far left side of the page, accessible from any page in Canvas.
- Sidebar. Located on the right, it contains your To Do list, the Coming Up feed, Recent Feedback, and a Grades View link for all your courses.
Inside a Course
The Home Page within each course has four components: the Course Navigation Bar, Content Area, Bread Crumb Navigation, and Sidebar.
- Course Navigation Bar. Appears on the left next to the Global Navigation Bar. It may have different links in different courses; your instructor decides what students see on this bar.
- Content Area. Located in the center of the course. It is where you will find all course content.
- Bread Crumb Navigation. Located under the name of the course. It shows you the path you have taken as you navigated through the course so far. Click on any item within the string to go directly to that page.
- Sidebar. It is the same as on the Landing Page except it includes items for that course only and will change depending on where you are within the course.
